The best way to see if you have enough insulation is to go take a look from your attic access. If you can see the wood framing members of your floor you do not have enough insulation. Even if you can’t see the wood joists chances are you still do not have adequate insulation on your attic floor. The only way to know for sure is to measure (18 inches) is your magic number.
